How To Avoid 3 Major Mistakes In Your Daily Skincare Routine
Updated: Mar 9
We all know that having a monthly facial and a proper daily skincare routine helps our skin to stay healthy, radiant and younger.
But, failing to do so, or to understand your primary skin needs and type - it can create different skin issues like: irritations, allergies, breakouts and aging.
So, here is what you can do.
Don't Over Cleansing Your Face
You might have been told that cleansing your face more than once per day is good and beneficial to your skin, but that is not true.
Over cleansing and exfoliating your face only removes your skin’s natural lipid protection which are meant to protect your skin against environmental damage caused by UV sun exposure, aging process and dryness.
The less frequent you cleanse and exfoliate your face, the better you protect and maintain your skin’s natural lipids and health.
Change Your Skincare Regimen And Routine
To maintain a balanced skin lipid barrier, the best thing to do is not to have an extravagant routine.
Here is why:
Firstly - in the evenings, cleanse thoroughly your skin with a facial cleanser before you apply your moisturizer or serum and if is necessarily and double cleanse if you are wearing lots of makeup.
Secondly - do not overload your skin with lots of products. If you have more then one type of serums and moisturizers, use them in alternate days but not in the same time.
Thirdly - in the mornings before applying your skincare products I strongly suggest not to use a facial cleanser. Instead, in order to refreshing your face and skin, make use of freshwater, tea, or sparkling water (in a different blog, I will address the benefits of tea and sparkling water for our skin). This will help your skin to maintain it's healthy balance of lipids and why not, will help you to save lots of extra skincare products too.
Fourthly - same as the evening routine, do not overload your skin with your morning skincare products. Apply only what is necessarily and alternate your products.
Fifth - sun protection. In order for the blocking factor active ingredients to take effect, apply your SPF cream at least 15 minutes before exiting your premises.
Don't Follow A Skincare Trend
In the pursuit of beauty, healthy skin and youth, we often follow blindly and place our trust in social media trends and do a self diagnoses when comes to our skin needs.
It is important to remember that your body and skin are in a continual change, and that your skin has its own individual needs.
More so, just because a product is very popular on the market and it seems very suitable to everyone and most of your friends are using it - doesn't mean that will work for your skin needs too.
The general ”one size fits all” skin care products, should not be applied as a golden rule.
Here are few thing you should keep in mind before you buy a product:
Find a professional facial expert to diagnose your skin type and needs and learn how to care for your skin in a healthy way.
Always be observant of the changes within your body and skin before you purchase any skincare products - what was suitable for your skin last year or a few months ago, might not be useful today.
Only use products which are in accordance with your skin needs and type.
Don't Over Load Your Skin With Lots Of Skincare Products.
As facial expert and skincare formulator, I personally believe that ''less is more'' when it comes to your skincare regimen.
Depending on your skin type and its immediate needs, all you need in your daily skincare routine is:
A facial cleanser – used only at night before sleeping.
A facial serum – can be used in the evening and morning if required.
A facial moisturizer – can be used in the morning and evening if required.
Sun Protection – can use during the day time.
A facial polish/scrub – can be used every 15 days.
Good luck with your daily skincare routine.
Always remember that less is more when it comes to personal care.
